Helen Shaw is a digital communications strategist and documentary maker. She is the founder and CEO of the award-winning digital media agency, Athena Media. She is a graduate of UCD (B.A. English Literature & History and a Masters Degree in Modern History) and holds a post graduate degree in Journalism from DCU. She was a fellow at Harvard University's international affairs Weatherhead Centre and has written and presented extensively on digital communications, public media and the media futures.
She worked as a senior journalist with the Irish Times before joining RTÉ as a radio producer and moved into news management with BBC Northern Ireland. She ran RTÉ Radio from 1997–2002 and launched RTÉ Lyric FM before taking up the Harvard fellowship. She established Athena Media in Spring 2004 as a digital media content and consultancy agency with both Irish and international clients.
in 2016 Helen received the Grand Award for her radio documentary work at the New York Radio Festival and Athena Media recently completed an acclaimed audio recording of James Joyce's novel A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man for University College Dublin's digital resources around Joyce.
