The Arts Council and Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media are delighted to announce that Art 2023 – Participation Award is open for applications.
As part of the final phase of the Decade of CentenariesProgramme 2012–2023, the Arts Council is working in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media to support the creation of a national programme, Art 2023. This programme will build on the Art 2016programme previously supported.
Minister Martin said: “This is a vital element of the Art 2023 Programme – an opportunity for artists to work with a range of different community organisations to create work of scale and ambition, using the many themes of the Decade of Centenaries as inspiration. We have seen throughout the Decade of Centenaries Programme how artists can create space for people to engage with complex subjects in creative and meaningful ways. Communities and community organisations have also embraced the Programme and shown new levels of insight and awareness. I look forward to seeing the outcome of this process and to seeing new and exciting partnerships evolve.
Maureen Kennelly said: “The Participation Award offers a substantial opportunity for artists & organisations to engage in an ambitious project, exploring some of the themes in the Decade of Centenaries. I look forward to seeing artists from across the country engage in exciting work with our communities.”
The Art 2023 – Participation Awardis a call to professional artists and arts organisations across all artforms to create ambitious work in collaboration with communities of interest and/or place. The award emphasises the importance of spanning the whole country, across our neighbourhoods, villages, towns and cities, reflecting on our shared history, but with an eye to our shared future. Award priorities are based on artistic excellence and the quality of collaborative and participatory arts practice, where artists and communities are encouraged to work together to respond with new perspectives on the themes of the Decade of Centenaries. The outcomes of this award will be the creation of an excellent and ambitious programme of public-facing work that encourages inclusivity, diversity, participation, provocation and discourse on identity of place, space and people as the commemoration of our significant centenaries draws to a close.
The awards will be between €50,000 - €150,000. Successful projects will be announced in December 2022 and projects will be completed in the course of 2023.
