The Arts Council is delighted to announce that 30 new artworks by 15 artists have been added to its Collection to be shared with audiences across Ireland.
At what remains a hugely challenging time for artists and wider society, the Arts Council is pleased to be able to continue delivering on its commitment to supporting artists and ensuring that their work can be experienced and enjoyed by the public.
The artworks newly added to the collection are by artists who live and work in communities both across Ireland and internationally. The acquisitions include video, installation, sculpture, painting, drawing and photography and bring the total number of artworks in the Collection to over 1,230. This continues a proud history of the Arts Council purchasing excellent and ambitious art reflecting the immense quality of visual arts practice today.
Announcing the purchases, Maureen Kennelly, Director of the Arts Council said:
"The Arts Council is delighted to purchase these significant artworks and to further build on a valued tradition of recognising excellent art on behalf of the public so that it can be shared with communities across the country to whom it belongs.
These new acquisitions celebrate the richness of Visual Arts in Ireland and delivers on the Arts Council’s key priorities of supporting artists and public engagement set out in its 10 year strategy Making Great Art Work: Leading the Development of the Arts."
These new artworks will be accessible to diverse public audiences throughout the country as part of the Arts Council Collection’s ongoing programme of exhibitions, loans and initiatives.
The artists added to the Collection are David Beattie, Myrid Carten, Brian Fay, Laura Fitzgerald, Ann Maria Healy, Austin Ivers, John Lalor, Leanne McDonagh, Kevin Mooney, Paul Nugent, Mandy O’Neill, Vera Ryklova, Rajinder Singh, Katie Watchorn and Emma Wolf-Haugh.
Purchases are overseen by the Collection Acquisitions Committee whose members are Aideen Barry - Artist, Caroline Cowley - Public Art Co–ordinator: Fingal Arts, Dónall Curtin (Chair) - Arts Council member, Eoin Dara - Head of Exhibitions: Dundee Contemporary Arts, Claire Doyle - Head of Visual Arts: Arts Council, Dragana Jurišić - Artist, Mark O’Kelly - Artist/Arts Council member, Atoosa Pour Hosseini - Artist and Jillian van Turnhout - Arts Council member.
