The Arts Council has expressed its regret at the death of book publisher Michael O’Brien.
Michael O’Brien established O’Brien Press along with his father Thomas in 1974, it evolved from a family-run printing and type house. They launched their first publication in November 1974. Me Jewel and Darlin’ Dublin, written by Éamonn MacThomáis and published while he was in jail.
From the very beginning, The O'Brien Press has been committed to quality in writing, editing, design and illustration. Today, The O'Brien Press is Ireland's leading independent publisher for both adults and children.
Speaking today Audrey Keane, Literature manager in the Arts Council said, ”Michael O’Brien had a highly distinguished career in Irish publishing. He worked tirelessly and with unswerving dedication and commitment and his influence in the area of Irish publishing for children in particular leaves a lasting legacy. We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family and all at The O’Brien Press”.
