Purpose and priorities of award
The purpose of the Deis Recording & Publication Award is to provide support for traditional arts projects, or projects involving collaboration between the traditional arts and other artforms, that focus on the recording or publication of work. Priority will be given to projects that demonstrate:
- attention to artistic quality
- innovation
- significant benefit to the traditional arts community.
Who can apply?
The Deis Recording & Publication Award is open to individuals, groups, bands and organisations
Proposals are accepted from all areas in the traditional arts (traditional music, song, dance and oral artforms such as storytelling and agallamh beirte)
Proposals received from applicants funded by Strategic
Funding or Arts Grants Funding must provide evidence that the project is
additional to activities already supported by the Arts Council.
What and how much can I apply for?
The Deis Recording & Publication Award is open to individuals and organisations and projects of the following nature will be considered:
- recordings and publications that are of a significant archival nature or that are pertaining to the music of a specific region or in a particular style;
- assist in making the music/song of an exceptional performer/composer/region publicly available;
- have a particularly innovative theme or original artistic format;
- form part of an individual’s career development.
The maximum award available is €10,000. The average award in 2023 was €6,000.
Reporting on your completed project
If you receive funding you will be required to provide a report using the Deis report form and the Income and Expenditure template when you request your final payment. Please see here for more information on reporting on your completed project and to download the forms.

Note: applications will only be accepted through the Arts
Council’s Online Services site.
If you have not used Online Services before you must register for a login to be
able to apply for funding. It is important that you register as early as
possible as it may take up to five working days for your registration to be
processed.
How do I apply for this?
- Download and read the guidelines available at the top right-hand corner of this page.
- Check if there is any mandatory supporting material that must accompany your application. We may provide a template for the supporting material. If so, you can download it from the supporting materials section at the top right-hand corner of this page.
- All applications must be made through the online services website. You will be able to upload a wide range of support materials in electronic format along with your application form.
- You must be registered with the online services website to make an application. If you are not already registered, we recommend you register for online services as far in advance of the deadline as possible, as it may take five days for your online services registration to be processed.
