Purpose of the award
The purpose of the Visual Arts Project Award is to support the
planning, pre-production, production and presentation of work in the Visual
Arts.

There are three strands available to apply for
under the Visual Arts Project Award:
Strand 1: Planning and Pre-Production:
The purpose of Strand 1 to support artists, curators, producers
or eligible organisations to research, prepare and confirm plans for new,
ambitious visual artwork for a future presentation.
This strand supports the development and preparation of a
project or commission rather than its public presentation or outcome.
The maximum amount which can be applied for is €12,000.
Strand 2: Mid-Scale Production:
The purpose of Strand 2: Mid-Scale Production is to support the
producing and commissioning of ambitious projects in the visual arts, focusing
on presentation and engagement with the public.
Strand 2 is for the final phase of a mid-scale project, and
applicants will be expected to demonstrate their capacity to deliver an
ambitious visual arts project, including its public presentation.
These projects can take place in a public space, a gallery
setting, unconventional sites and venues or on digital platforms.
The amount that can be applied for is under €25,000.
If successful, applicants will have one year from receipt of
decisions to complete all activities related to their Visual Arts Project Strand
2 Award application.
Strand 3: Large-Scale Production:
The purpose of Strand 3: Large-Scale Production is to support
the producing and commissioning of ambitious projects in the visual arts,
focusing on presentation and engagement with the public.
Strand 3 is for the final phase of a large-scale project, and
applicants will be expected to demonstrate their capacity to deliver an
ambitious visual arts project, including its public presentation.
These projects can take place in a public space, a gallery
setting, unconventional sites and venues or on digital platforms.
The amount that can be applied for is between €25,000 to €80,000.
If successful, applicants will have one year from receipt of
decisions to complete all activities related to their Visual Arts Project Strand
3 Award application.
Note on supporting materials:
Please note that different supporting materials are required for
Strand 1 and Strand 2/3 of the Visual Arts Project Award. Supporting material
means material that is separate from and additional to your
application form.
The supporting materials outlined for all three strands of the
award must be uploaded with your application. If you do not include the
required supporting material, your application will be ineligible.
Examples of previous work are required for all strands. Please
note that links to social media platforms or to individual applicants’ websites
are not accepted.
Applicants must confirm the participation of any lead or key
partners named in their Project proposals, as per the required supporting
material.

You will be able to apply for additional costs if you have access needs relating to your application.
Note: applications will only be accepted through the Arts Council’s
Online Services site. If you have not used Online Services before you must register for a login
to be able to apply for funding. It is important that you register as early as possible as it may take up to five working days for your registration to be processed.

- Check if there is any mandatory supporting material that must accompany your application. We may provide a template for the supporting material. If so, you can download it from the supporting materials section at the top right-hand corner of this page.
- All applications must be made through the online services website. You will be able to upload a wide range of support materials in electronic format along with your application form.
- You must be registered with the online services website to make an application. If you are not already registered, we recommend you register for online services as far in advance of the deadline as possible, as it may take five days for your online services registration to be processed.
