As well as outlining how we intend to broaden and enhance our role as a prescribed body under the Planning and Development
Act 2000, the policy stresses the importance of the arts in the broader public policy arena and aligns with key national development planning instruments such as Project Ireland 2040 and Our Rural Future: Rural
Development Policy 2021 – 2025.
Two essential components of the policy are:
- An increased emphasis on using a people and place-centred approach; and
- An effort to ensure greater socio-spatial equity in our supports and development work;
both of which acknowledge the need for different
approaches and interventions in different places that respond to the specific
needs of those places.
The policy was launched by Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht at the Places Matter Conference 2022 in VISUAL Carlow on 25 March.
